Neo-Soul Egyptian Fusion Dance + Private Coaching

For many dancers, Egyptian music (North African music in general) can often be difficult to understand. Fortunately, Neo Soul is a familiar genre to use, to improve your sense of musicality in Egyptian dance. "How so?", you may ask. Both Neo Soul and Egyptian music have connections that go deep into North, West, and Central Africa. In music and in dance. Join this class to learn more... In this workshop, you will use your familiarity with Neo Soul to create a foundation where you can build on your understanding of Egyptian music. It's helpful even if you already understand Egyptian music. I have been training my ear to understand Egyptian music for 7 years and I still turn to Neo Soul for inspiration. This workshop will last a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes plus a complimentary private 45 min coaching session: In Part 1, you will learn basic Egyptian movements. You will allow the movements to settle in your body to prepare for more of the nuance in Part 2. In Part 2, you will develop a deeper sense of musicality by learning to mirror the music with your body's movements. *If you are an experienced belly dancer, you will be given more intricate tasks* The purpose of this workshop is to assist you in realizing that instrumental Egyptian music still has a "voice" that riffs and runs in a similar way as Neo Soul artists.
