For many dancers, Egyptian music (North African music in general) is often difficult to understand. Fortunately, Neo Soul is a wonderful genre to use, to improve your understanding of the music.
"How so?", you may ask.
Both Neo Soul and Egyptian music have connections that points to North, West, and Central Africa. This is explored more in the class.
 
In this workshop, you will use your familiarity with Neo Soul to create a foundation where you can build on your understanding of Egyptian music. It's helpful even if you already understand Egyptian music. I have been training my ear to understand Egyptian music  for 7 years and I still turn to Neo Soul for inspiration. 

This workshop consists of over 1 hour and 30 minutes of teaching. It is pre-recorded.
 
In Part 1, you will learn basic Egyptian movements.  
You will allow the movements to settle in your body to prepare for more of the nuance in Part 2.  
 
In Part 2, you will develop a deeper sense of musicality by learning to mirror the music with your body's movements. 
*If you are an experienced belly dancer, you are given more intricate tasks* 

The purpose of this workshop is to assist you in understanding that instrumental Egyptian music has a "voice" that riffs and runs in a similar way as Neo Soul artists. You will strengthen your sense of musicality. Through Egyptian dance, becoming more intune with Egyptian music will sit you down in the lusciousness you desire to be in contact with.
